In the years since the release of their debut album “Instructions Unclear,” Oakland-based Indigo Elephant have understood the core of their songwriting and taken a step towards clarity. The passion project of Julius Pasion, Nick Jensen, Cliff Yang, and Brenden Phung, Indigo Elephant have written tunes that blend an eclectic mix of indie rock, pop, soul, and even gospel. Their music is known for their memorable choruses, soaring vocal harmonies, and explosive brass sections. Their upcoming EP, “While We Were Away,” reflects the complicated dynamics of interpersonal relationships and demonstrates their expertise in finely crafted pop-rock arrangements, while tackling subjects such as loneliness, anxiety, heartbreak, and friction between friends.

One of the results of their efforts has led to Mak Nova winning Musician of The Year through the Santa Cruz Nexties Awards in 2023. Together, Mak Nova and The Kings create a genre of their own; a captivating fusion of hip-hop, soul, afro-beat, and r&b. They are currently based in Santa Cruz, CA.
